Collaborative law is an alternative to family litigation. It is a voluntary, and non-adversarial approach to resolving family law matters, where separating couples are able to negotiate their issues outside of the court process.

This process is often team-based, with the parties and their lawyers sitting down to work collaboratively towards resolution, rather than positioning themselves against each other. Following the successful resolution of negotiations, the parties sign a binding contract with their agreed upon terms.

The ultimate goal is to help transition your family into its next stage of life, while achieving a mutually acceptable agreement that reflects the best interests of the family and most importantly, any children involved. Collaborative law focuses on constructive negotiation and open communication, which can lead to healthier long-term emotional outcomes for everyone.

There are several benefits to collaborative law. The process is private, as the proceedings do not form part of the public court record; it allows for greater control, as the parties make their own decisions rather than having outcomes imposed by a judge; and it is often more time-efficient and cost-effective than traditional litigation.

If you are dealing with a family law matter that may benefit from a collaborative approach, or if you have questions about whether it’s right for you, let’s connect.
